How it works
Sermon Relay runs on a laptop during the service. The preacher’s voice comes from the church sound system into the app. Guests hear the translation on wireless earpieces, or on their phones by scanning a QR code.
What you need
- A computer with Wi‑Fi and a normal web browser. We use a MacBook Pro.
- A feed of the spoken sermon from your church sound board.
- An in/out USB audio adapter to connect the sound board to the laptop.
- For phone listening: guest phones on church Wi‑Fi (or cellular) and a QR code or join link from the booth.

Tips for the operator
- Turn off notifications on the laptop (Do Not Disturb / Focus, messages, calendar alerts). Pop-ups and chimes can interrupt the service.
- Use that laptop only for translation during the service, not for slides, streaming, or other jobs at the same time.
- Ask for a clean speech feed from the sound person. The app may have difficulty understanding speech with background music, more so with singing.
- Have the sound person set sensible level on the board. If it’s too loud, there may be distortion and the app may have difficulty understanding speech.
- Set volume on the laptop and the receivers. Guests can turn their own earpiece up or down. The app has no separate volume control for the outgoing sound.
- Before the service: plug in the audio adapter · allow the microphone in the browser · choose the USB audio device · watch the meter · try a short test.
